Abstract

My PhD research project aims to verify the possibilities of applying internationally recognized documentation models and strategies to installation-artworks kept in the most important Italian museums for contemporary art.

Exploring their permanent collections, I'm going to identify the artworks of installation nature, to review the existing documentation and to enrich it by using the documentation models and strategies already used by the most important international museums for contemporary art. Moreover I'm going to implement the museums’ archives (with interviews, photos and video, etc.), compile reports and other documents and try to solve any problems of applicability of the models to the existing reality. For each museum, I will create and examine some cases-study. In the condition of precariousness that threatens the existence and the future of the Italian museums, my project also aims to analyze the theoretical background behind these issues in terms of opening, updating and future perspectives.
